The Americans think that they invented baseball....but not so fast you colonial types. It might in fact be based on an old English folk-game called Base-Ball, as illustrated here.....

Great Article. I've read where variations of the game of baseball also go back as far as Ancient Egypt, Greece, China's Ming Dynasty, and Medieval Russia. You have a great blog here, Cardinal Wolsey!
